Unix Support ~ Changing/Adding users using SAM (HP-UX)

sam (the Unix System Administration Manager) works best from the HP console. You can use a terminal/PC in Wyse60 mode but some of the screens may scroll incorrectly and make things difficult to follow.

login as root, type sam and press return at the first help screen. You will now be presented with a list of admin options

using the arrow keys (up/down) get to the line accounts for users and groups and press return

on this sub menu use the arrow keys and get to users and press return

ADDING USERS: (we suggest you look at the setup of an existing user first to see what fields require what information)

press tab to get to command line at top of screen

press a to select the actions menu

press a to add a user

enter data as indicated using the tab key to move from field to field

when done tab to the OK button and press return

CHANGING USERS:

use the arrow keys to get to the user you want to change and press return. The user's entry should be highlighted on the screen

press tab

press a to select the actions menu

press m to modify

use the tab key to get to the field(s) you want to change

when done tab to the OK button and press return

IMPORTANT:

when setting up a new user you will have to setup the .profile file in the users directory. This file controls the terminal defaults and other important settings along with logging the user to the correct starting account. In most cases you can just copy an existing .profile from another user

for new users you must also setup the default login and security information in UniData. This information is contained in a file maintained by CONDOR.  Please call for instructions

exiting sam

press tab, then f for the file menu, then e for exit
