All users should be logged off during backups - otherwise the backup may not be successful!

at any time during the day insert the appropriately labeled tape into the tape drive

the system will automatically backup the system during the night

in the morning remove the tape from the drive and check the backup log for errors

to do this, use the option from the main menu under utilities to list/clear the log. The backup log will display on the screen (to advance each page press the space bar - to cancel the display press the letter Q)

the backup log will look something like ...

sh listlog

as always, if you see or suspect that an error has occurred please check with support

after checking the log and confirming there are no errors, use the option to clear the log file. You may skip this step if need be as the next backup will just add to the end of the log. Remember to clear the log before it gets too long
